Nick Jonas reveals why Disney movies now hit differently as a father

Nick Jonas has opened up about an emotional moment he shared while watching a Disney film with his young daughter, revealing how fatherhood has deepened his connection to storytelling.

Speaking at a panel discussion for his upcoming film Power Ballad at New York City’s 92NY on May 18, the 33-year-old musician reflected on how becoming a parent has changed the way he experiences movies and music.

Jonas, who shares four-year-old daughter Malti with actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas, said he recently became emotional while watching a Disney film alongside her, admitting that certain scenes hit him “super hard” as a father.

“I’ll say there are two scenes in this movie that I’m not in, and they hit me super hard as a father,” he said during the discussion.

He added that fatherhood has made him more sensitive to themes of family and emotional connection in films, noting that he now relates to stories in a much deeper way than before.

“I think there’s a real thing that you’ll see… family, that aspect,” Jonas said, explaining how becoming a parent has reshaped his perspective.

The Jonas Brothers star also revealed that one particular classic continues to move him emotionally.

“When I cry over a movie, it’s The Lion King,” he said.

Jonas shared that revisiting childhood films with his daughter has become a meaningful experience, allowing him to pass along stories that once shaped his own upbringing.

“And kind of relive some of those experiences, the stories that shaped who I became, and now I’m sharing that with her,” he said.

The singer added that the experience of watching films with his daughter is something he finds deeply special, describing it as a new layer of emotional connection in his life.
