Alexandra Grant reveals secret to her ‘respectful’ relationship with Keanu Reeves
The artist credits mutual respect and communication for the strength of their relationship
Alexandra Grant has offered a rare glimpse into her relationship with longtime partner Keanu Reeves, revealing that mutual respect and open communication are at the heart of their enduring bond.
Grant, 53, and Reeves, 61, have been publicly linked since 2019 but have largely kept their relationship out of the spotlight. However, during a recent appearance at a launch event, the visual artist shared insights into how the couple navigate their personal and professional lives.
Speaking to People, Grant described Reeves as thoughtful and considerate, particularly when it comes to offering feedback on creative work.
"He's always so appreciative, so he's always cautious, I think, with feedback, and I would say the same," she said.
Grant explained that both she and Reeves understand the importance of giving one another the space needed to pursue their individual creative processes while remaining supportive partners.
"You want to always be respectful and leave the other person to bake their cake," she said, before admitting that discussing her relationship publicly still makes her nervous.
Despite their busy schedules, Grant said the pair maintain a strong connection through communication and trust.
"I would say that there is all the listening in the world," she explained. "We know that we could talk about any problem or challenge or creative idea and talk about it forever if that is needed."
She added that respecting each other's independence is just as important as maintaining open dialogue, particularly when either of them is deeply immersed in a project.
According to Grant, another key factor in their successful relationship is a shared understanding of creative work and the demands that come with it.
Both are accustomed to becoming fully invested in their respective careers, whether Reeves is preparing for a film role or Grant is focused on her artwork.
Reflecting on Reeves' iconic screen characters, Grant joked that she has effectively "lived with" some of his most famous creations, including John Wick and Neo.
She noted that every project follows its own journey, with a beginning, middle and end, and that both she and Reeves understand the dedication required to bring creative work to life.
"When he's in a character, for example, I have so much respect for that understanding that this is the middle to the end of a project," Grant said.
The artist drew parallels between acting and painting, explaining that she becomes equally absorbed in her work when creating art.
"When I'm in painter mode, I am in it. I'm fully in it," she said, adding that painting can feel like a form of performance in its own right.
