Chef shares four cold coffee recipes to beat the summer heat
Ranveer Brar's four cold coffee recipes include a banana twist and the viral dalgona version
For many people, coffee is an indispensable part of a busy daily routine. When summer temperatures rise, however, a chilled variation of the beloved brew becomes something of a necessity.
Celebrity chef and MasterChef India judge Ranveer Brar came to the rescue on 2 June, uploading a YouTube video featuring four distinct ways to prepare cold coffee at home.
The four variations covered in the tutorial are: the classic cold coffee, banana cold coffee, the once-viral dalgona cold coffee, and caramel dalgona cold coffee.
Several of the recipes also call for a homemade caramel sauce, the preparation of which forms the foundation for two of the drinks. Full step-by-step instructions for each are set out below.
Caramel sauce
Ingredients
- 100 gms Sugar
- 2 tbsp Water
- ¼ cup Fresh cream
Method
- Pour the sugar and water into a saucepan, stir well, and cook over heat for four to five minutes until the sugar caramelises.
- Remove from the heat, pour in the fresh cream, and stir thoroughly to combine.
- Decant into a bowl and set aside until needed.
Classic cold coffee
Ingredients
- 2–3 tbsp Hot water
- 2 tbsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp Instant coffee powder
- 2–3 Ice cubes
- 1 cup Milk
- 2–3 tbsp Fresh cream
- 1 scoop Vanilla ice cream
Method
- Place the hot water, sugar, instant coffee powder, ice cubes, and milk into a blender jar and blitz for one minute or until the mixture turns frothy.
- Add the fresh cream and ice cream, then blend again for a further minute.
- Pour into a serving glass, top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and finish with a dusting of instant coffee powder. Serve immediately.
Banana cold coffee
Ingredients
- 2 Ripe bananas
- 2–3 heaped tbsp prepared caramel sauce
- 2 tbsp Instant coffee powder
- 1 cup Milk
- 4–6 Ice cubes
Method
- Combine the bananas, caramel sauce, instant coffee powder, milk, and ice cubes in a blender jar and blitz for one minute or until frothy.
- Pour into a serving glass, add additional ice cubes, and dust with instant coffee powder. Serve immediately.
Dalgona cold coffee
Ingredients
- 45 gms Instant coffee powder
- 90 ml Hot water
- 45 gms Sugar
- 1 cup Milk
- 2–3 Ice cubes
Method
- Combine the instant coffee powder, hot water, and sugar in a bowl, then use a hand blender to whisk the mixture into a thick, foamy, frothy consistency.
- Transfer to a flat, shallow container and place in the freezer for four to five hours.
- Fill a serving glass with milk and ice cubes, then spoon the prepared dalgona foam over the top. Serve immediately.
Caramel Dalgona Cold Coffee
Ingredients
- 2–3 Ice cubes
- 1 tbsp prepared caramel sauce
- 1 cup Milk
- As needed, prepared dalgona foam
Method
- Place the ice cubes, caramel sauce, and milk in a serving bowl and stir well to combine.
- Spoon the prepared dalgona foam over the top and serve immediately.
