A 44-year-old California man has been arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing his mother's elderly boyfriend before ringing 911 and then personally identifying himself to the officers who arrived at the scene, authorities have alleged.

Michael Gledhill now faces a single count of murder following his arrest and booking, according to a press release issued by the Los Angeles Police Department. The full release can be found at the LAPD's official newsroom.

Officers called to Tarzana residence

Police were dispatched to a home on the 19200 block of Erwin Street in Tarzana at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, following a radio call to the address.

According to the LAPD release, the person who dialled 911 allegedly told the dispatcher: "I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin."

The incident was also reported by KTLA 5.

Upon arrival, officers discovered 81-year-old James Handy unconscious in the front garden of the property, the release states, describing him as "unconscious and suffering from a stab wound to his chest." Handy was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Suspect flagged down responding officers

Police allege that Gledhill approached the responding officers himself at the scene, "telling them he was the one they were looking for." According to authorities, Gledhill resided at the property with his mother, who is Handy's girlfriend.

He was taken to Van Nuys Jail, where he is currently held on a $2 million bond. As of Thursday, 4 June, it remained unclear whether formal charges had been filed in the case.
