Simone Biles has revealed she experienced a serious health scare this week, saying she “almost died” and describing it as one of the most frightening moments of her life.

The 29-year-old Olympic gymnast shared the update on her Instagram Story, posting a photo of her arm covered with hospital bracelets and indicating she had recently been in medical care.

“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age, but almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card this week,” she wrote.

“This was one of, if not the, scariest experience of my life.”

Biles did not disclose the nature of the medical emergency but said she has been resting and recovering at home.

The gymnast noted that the difficult week was made harder by the fact that her husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens, was away for training camp with the Indianapolis Colts.

“Jonathan was in Indy for practices. I’ve been in bed resting this week,” she wrote. “I’ll explain sooner or later, but shout out to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited or sent flowers. Love y’all.”

She later shared images of floral arrangements sent by friends and family, as well as a photo of her resting in bed.

In another post, she also showed a heart rate monitor reading, offering a glimpse into her recovery period.

Despite the scare, Biles has previously spoken openly about prioritizing her mental and physical health throughout her career, including stepping back from competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

At the time, she said the decision was necessary to protect both her body and her mental well-being, even amid global scrutiny.

“I knew it was the right thing to do, even if the world didn’t understand,” she previously said.

“It was difficult, but necessary. Standing up for myself in that arena was the bravest leap of my life.”

Biles, who became the most decorated gymnast in history after rising to fame as a teenager, has also credited long-term therapy with helping her manage pressure and maintain balance in her personal and professional life.

She has described therapy as a “safe haven” that allows her to stay grounded while navigating the demands of elite sport and public life.
