Robert Irwin throws his hat into James Bond debate with wild concept idea
The TV personality says his version of 007 would battle 'habitat destruction' as the main villain
Robert Irwin may not have any major acting credits to his name just yet, but the Australian conservationist already has a unique vision for what his version of James Bond would look like.
The 22-year-old television personality and wildlife advocate recently revealed that he would happily step into the iconic role of 007 if the opportunity ever came his way and he already has a storyline mapped out.
Speaking to The Watchlist, Irwin responded to ongoing speculation surrounding the search for the next James Bond, joking that he would be ready to take over should fellow Australian actor Jacob Elordi no longer be in contention.
“If Jacob pulls out, I'm there,” Irwin quipped. “I don’t know if my first role can be James Bond, but I wouldn't say no.”
The son of late wildlife legend Steve Irwin even suggested a Bond concept that would blend seamlessly with his family's conservation legacy.
“A khaki tux? Obviously!” he joked. “And the villain would be habitat destruction.”
While the prospect of becoming cinema’s most famous spy remains purely hypothetical, Irwin has plenty keeping him occupied.
In addition to his ongoing work at Australia Zoo, he has continued to expand his television career through projects, including Dancing With The Stars: The Next Pro.
The conservationist admitted that slowing down has never come naturally to him, describing himself as someone who constantly needs to stay active.
“I can't stand being still; it makes me physically ill,” Irwin said. “I actually get physically nauseous if I'm inside. I have to just always be going.”
Despite maintaining a packed schedule, Irwin acknowledged that he often commits himself to more projects than he probably should.
“I say yes to everything,” he explained. “But when I go home, the real work for Australia Zoo and my conservation projects begins. My day job starts when I get back. I love that.”
Meanwhile, the race to become the next James Bond continues to intensify.
Amazon MGM recently confirmed that the search for a new actor to portray the legendary British spy is officially underway following Daniel Craig’s departure from the franchise after 2021’s No Time to Die.
The next installment will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the screenplay.
Casting veteran Nina Gold has also reportedly joined the production team to help identify Craig’s successor.
Several names have emerged as potential contenders in recent months, including Jacob Elordi, Damson Idris and Callum Turner, though no official casting announcement has been made.
