Dummy unit mockups reveal Apple's foldable iPhone with a 7.8-inch inner display
4. Apple's foldable iPhone is said to feature a passport-style form factor and a dual rear camera array
With Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 fast approaching, the most detailed look yet at the company's long-anticipated foldable iPhone has emerged. Leaker Sonny Dickson has shared dummy unit mockups that shed new light on the device's design, dimensions, and likely colour options.
Screen size and form factor
When unfolded, the device is said to open out to an inner display of approximately 7.8 inches — a size broadly comparable to that of an iPad mini. The front-facing camera is positioned at the top left corner of this inner screen.
In its closed state, the outer display measures roughly 5.5 inches, and the overall footprint of the folded handset is notably more compact and squat than a standard iPhone — taking on a passport-like form.
Camera and biometrics
The rear of the device houses a dual-camera array. Notably, the iPhone Fold is not expected to feature Face ID; instead, a Touch ID sensor has been integrated into the power button — a departure from the biometric approach used across Apple's current iPhone lineup.
Colour options: white only at launch?
Bloomberg had previously reported that the foldable would be made available in both black and white. However, Dickson's latest information suggests the launch colour range could be narrowed further still, with white potentially being the sole option at release.
That would actually be consistent with Apple's established approach to new product categories. Neither the original iPhone nor the first iPad were offered in multiple colour variants at launch — broader colour choices arrived only with subsequent generations.
The iPhone X in 2017 similarly launched in just two colours. Even this year's iPhone 17 Pro scaled back to three colour options, down from the four available in the previous model.
