Los Angeles police probe deaths of two children and man in suspected murder-suicide
The identities of the victims have not been fully released pending family notification
Twin 10-year-old brothers Joseph and Greysen Chavez were found dead alongside a 37-year-old man in a Los Angeles apartment in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide, according to police.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 7, after the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call reporting a shooting at an apartment on Owensmouth Avenue at around 7:15 p.m. local time.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the two children and the adult male deceased, each suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, the LAPD said in a statement.
A handgun was recovered from the apartment, and the case has been assigned to the department’s Robbery-Homicide Division, Special Section, as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Authorities believe the 37-year-old man was the father of the twin boys, though his identity has not yet been officially released pending notification of next of kin.
The incident is currently being treated as a murder-suicide investigation.
Neighbors described the tragedy as devastating, with one resident telling KTLA they were shocked by the loss and questioning what may have led to the incident.
“The kids never had a chance to have a life,” the neighbor said. “Why, if the father had issues, couldn’t he have gotten help? It’s just… there are no words right now.”
The case remains under active investigation as officials work to establish a full timeline of events leading up to the deaths.
