Twin 10-year-old boys, identified as Joseph and Greysen Chavez, were found dead alongside a 37-year-old man in a Los Angeles apartment on Sunday, June 7, in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide.

The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded to a call reporting a shooting at approximately 7:15 p.m. local time at a residence on Owensmouth Avenue. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the three individuals deceased with apparent gunshot wounds.

Police said a handgun was recovered at the scene. The case is being handled by the LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division’s Special Section.

The identity of the adult male has not been publicly released pending notification of next of kin, officials said.

Authorities have stated the incident is being treated as a murder-suicide involving the father of the two children.

A neighbor described the situation as “tragic” in comments to local media, saying they were left shocked by the loss and questioning how such an outcome could occur.

The investigation remains ongoing.
