Carly Simon is making her long-awaited return to music with a new album of original songs — her first in 18 years — set for release on 14 August 2026, alongside a lead single that dropped on Thursday.
The 82-year-old American singer-songwriter unveiled Howl as the first taste of the forthcoming 12-track album, titled Comes in Waves, marking her most significant musical release since This Kind of Love, which came out in April 2008.
A song between betrayal and forgiveness
Howl has been described as a folk-pop anthem that moves through a sweeping range of emotions, and Simon explained the personal and emotional weight behind it in an interview with PEOPLE.
"'Howl' lives in that space between betrayal and forgiveness, where anger has to be voiced before it can be released," she said. "It's about letting the frustration out so it doesn't sit and simmer. The song begins in anger, but it moves toward forgiveness, and speaks to any situation where trust has been broken."
