Nancy Guthrie search update: 25 unmarked graves found after anonymous tip in Mexico

A volunteer search group operating in Mexico has discovered 25 unmarked graves near the border city of Nogales after receiving an anonymous tip claiming that abducted Arizona woman Nancy Guthrie was buried in the area — though the search for Guthrie herself came up empty.

The group, Buscando Corazones Nogales, received the confidential tip on Wednesday directing them to the Mariposa area, located northwest of Nogales, where they conducted a preliminary search based on information provided by the tipster.

Anonymous tip directed searchers to Mariposa

Ayala Ortiz, Head of Buscando Corazones Nogales, confirmed the tip and the subsequent operation. "We received an anonymous call telling us that Guthrie's remains were in the Mariposa area," Ortiz said. The search went deeper into the area than a previous operation conducted by the group earlier this year, during which initial graves had already been discovered at the same location.

Guthrie was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on 1 February — more than 70 miles north of the border city of Nogales. She has not been found since her disappearance, and the investigation into her case has continued without resolution.

Security forces deployed as search continues

The Sonora State Commission is also actively involved in the case, with state officials deploying security forces to protect search workers operating in the field. Investigators are currently awaiting laboratory results, which are expected to play a role in identifying the correct suspect as the case moves forward.

No new leads have emerged from the latest search, and the high-profile abduction case remains unsolved.
