Prince George is set to attend Eton College from September, Kensington Palace has confirmed, marking a significant milestone for the second in line to the British throne. The announcement was made on Tuesday, with the palace stating: "Kensington Palace can confirm that Prince George will attend Eton College from this September." The decision, made jointly by Prince William and Princess Catherine, is being seen as a nod to royal family tradition — William himself is an Eton alumnus.

A decision made for the whole family

The choice of school was not taken lightly, with sources indicating that William and Catherine weighed the needs of all three of their children when reaching the decision. "The decision wasn't just about George, they had to factor in Charlotte and Louis as well," a source told the Daily Express. The source added: "William is thrilled that his son wanted to follow in his footsteps. He's incredibly proud."

What Eton was like for William

William's own time at Eton was notably understated for someone of his standing, according to those who knew him during his school years. "We weren't in awe of William, and I don't think he would have wanted us to be," a former friend told the Daily Telegraph.

The source added: "You have to remember that at Eton, he never stood out that much — there were boys from even richer families than his, and also boys from very old English aristocratic stock, who could trace their lineage back thousands of years, and who would tease William for being an upstart German."
