Singer Katy Perry performed her track “Wonder” live for the first time during the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony on Friday. The 41-year-old pop star delivered the energetic musical set at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California, as one of the major headliners for the global tournament launch.
She shared the stage with several international artists, including Anitta, Tyla, and BLACKPINK member Lisa, who all provided distinct musical performances for the massive crowd.
The star-studded sporting event was covered by PEOPLE, which highlighted how the performer integrated unique global themes into her stadium appearance. Perry was joined on the field by ten-year-old Norwegian Singer Tius, whose vocals are featured on the song from her 2024 album 143.
Surrounded by flags from around the world, the musician lit up the venue while wearing a shimmering silver outfit selected from the Stella McCartney Fall/Winter 2026 fashion collection. At the conclusion of the musical number, Perry picked up the young guest artist as the stadium crowd cheered.
Introducing a new live collaboration
A day before taking the stadium stage, Perry introduced fans to Tius in a video shared on her Instagram account to explain the story behind his involvement in the track. “That little voice you're listening to right now is Tius,” Perry wrote alongside the clip. Following the live event, she posted a photo of the duo hanging out backstage on Instagram. She captioned the picture with the phrase, "Brought a little “Wonder” to the @fifaworldcup in Los Angeles with @tiusluka"
The stadium appearance marked the first time Perry had ever performed “Wonder” live in front of an audience. At the Tribeca Festival premiere of Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour — Live from Paris, she previously hinted that she had chosen a specific song fans had never heard her perform onstage before. “It's very fitting for the ceremonial song that I get to sing," the vocalist told PEOPLE. “And it's not new,” she added. “It's off of one of my records, and I'm very excited to perform it.”
Celebrity attendance and match results
SoFi Stadium hosted the exclusive match day experience in Los Angeles, bringing together prominent celebrities and sports fans to celebrate the kickoff of the global soccer tournament. Guests enjoyed premium VIP suite access during an evening celebrating the intersection of sports, entertainment, and culture.
The opening game saw the United States men's national team dominate Paraguay with a 4-1 victory. Several high-profile celebrities were in attendance to watch the match, including Justin Bieber, Hailey Bieber, David Beckham, Tom Cruise, Chloe Bailey, Sterling K. Brown, and Dylan Efron.
The Los Angeles event marked the final stop in a sequential series of North American World Cup opening celebrations. These festivities followed initial kickoff events hosted in Mexico City and Toronto on Thursday. The ceremony in Mexico City featured performances from Shakira and Burna Boy, who sang “Dai Dai,” which serves as the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Musicians J Balvin, Danny Ocean, Los Angeles Azules, and Mana were also part of the multi-national musical lineup. The next match for the United States team is scheduled for June 19, when they will take on Australia in Seattle, Washington, at 9 a.m. ET.
