OpenAI unveiled ChatGPT Work on Thursday, introducing an artificial intelligence-powered workplace agent designed to automate complex professional tasks independently. The tech startup launched the software as a specialised component within its popular chatbot application to execute multi-step corporate projects across different digital files and applications. The new system operates continuously with minimal user intervention, shifting the brand from a standard conversational model into an autonomous digital coworker.

An official product announcement from the company detailed how the platform functions differently from traditional generative assistants that respond only to singular text prompts. The software runs on the latest GPT-5.6 model developed by OpenAI, allowing it to manage extended workflows. The system possesses capabilities to gather information from interconnected corporate tools, including electronic mail, cloud storage, team messaging platforms, and customer relationship management software. The technology utilises this data to generate completed commercial outputs, such as financial spreadsheets, corporate presentations, web applications, and written business reports.

The introduction of ChatGPT Work represents a major evolutionary advancement for the organisation as it expands further into the workplace automation sector. Users can access the platform initially through the official ChatGPT desktop application on Windows and macOS operating systems. Corporate leaders concurrently updated the desktop software alongside the product release to accommodate the advanced workplace agent.

OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman scheduled a phased rollout for the user base. The company deployed the automation feature first to Pro, Enterprise, and Education subscribers globally. Individual Plus users and Business accounts will receive access to the digital coworker software shortly afterwards.
