Former basketball player Zaire Wade faces a felony domestic violence charge in a Los Angeles court
Professional basketball player Zaire Wade faces a felony domestic violence charge in California following his arrest last month. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman officially filed the felony criminal complaint on Thursday, July 9, 2026, against the 24-year-old athlete. The specific charge includes felony injuring a cohabitant, fiancé, boyfriend, girlfriend, or child’s parent.
People reported that the official complaint alleges Wade willfully inflicted corporal injury that resulted in a traumatic condition upon the victim. The romantic partner's identity has not been disclosed to the public. Representatives for Wade and the Wade family have not yet commented on the dynamic legal developments.
The formal legal proceedings follow an initial incident on June 21, 2026, when Burbank Police Department officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 5:30 a.m. local time. NBC Los Angeles reported that neighbours notified emergency services after hearing a woman screaming inside the residence. Responding emergency units discovered a woman at the scene suffering from visible lacerations across her face and body. Paramedics examined the injured woman at the property, but she did not require transportation to a local medical facility for treatment.
Law enforcement officials booked Wade for domestic violence, criminal threats, and false imprisonment at the time of the initial intervention. Authorities secured an emergency protective order for the victim immediately following the altercation. The athlete posted a $50,000 bond and secured his release from custody later that same day.
Wade most recently played professional basketball for the Cape Town Tigers within the Basketball Africa League. His father, National Basketball Association Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade, currently retains a minority ownership stake in the Utah Jazz franchise. The younger Wade is scheduled to appear in a Pasadena courtroom for his formal arraignment at 8:30 a.m. on July 16, 2026.
