Shakira brings her global hits back to Egypt with special pyramids performance
The 'Hips Don’t Lie' hitmaker shared her excitement about returning to Egypt for a special concert event
Shakira is heading back to one of the world’s most famous landmarks for a highly anticipated concert nearly 20 years after her last performance at the Great Pyramids of Giza.
The Colombian superstar has announced that she will perform at the iconic Egyptian site on November 28, marking her first show at the ancient landmark since her 2007 Oral Fixation tour.
Sharing her excitement about the upcoming performance, Shakira said: “I’m very happy to be performing in Egypt, at the Pyramids of Giza. I love you all.”
The concert will take place at the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, with tickets now available through the official ticketing platform.
Shakira’s return to Egypt comes as the singer prepares for another major global performance — the FIFA World Cup final halftime show.
The “Hips Don’t Lie” hitmaker is set to perform at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 19 alongside a star-studded lineup featuring Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber and Burna Boy.
The upcoming halftime appearance follows Shakira’s performance at the tournament’s opening ceremony, where she and Burna Boy debuted their official FIFA World Cup anthem, “Dai Dai.”
However, the singer admitted she wants the final performance to feel different from her first appearance.
“I played at the inauguration, and now I'm playing at the final,” Shakira said on The Capital Evening Show With Jimmy Hill. “I've got to wrap my head around it, make it a little different from what I did at the inauguration.”
The 49-year-old singer revealed the halftime show will feature multiple artists coming together for a special celebration.
“It's going to be a shared halftime show … it's going to be pretty historic,” she said, adding that the lineup includes “five amazing artists.”
Shakira also shared her hope that Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who curated the headline performance, will join the stage.
“I really hope that Chris Martin is going to be singing too,” she said.
While rehearsals are still ahead, Shakira admitted that even she is waiting to see how the final show will come together.
“We'll all get together and we'll all figure it out how it's gonna be, but I'm really curious. I'm as curious as you are right now!” she added.
Following her World Cup appearance, Shakira will turn her attention back to Egypt, where she is set to reunite with fans at the historic Pyramids of Giza for a long-awaited return.
