Robert Pattinson has joked about an unusual pattern in his career, admitting that he always ends up playing unsettling characters whenever he works alongside Tom Holland. The actor, who plays Antinous in Christopher Nolan's upcoming film The Odyssey, made the comments in a recent interview with Empire. This marks the third time Pattinson and Holland have starred together, following The Lost City of Z in 2016 and The Devil All the Time in 2020.
Pattinson jokes about 'slithery' roles
"I always end up doing these slithery things with Tom and I don't know why," Pattinson said. He was referring to his character Antinous, one of Penelope's most persistent suitors during Odysseus's long absence, whose scenes with Holland's character Telemachus are anything but friendly.
"I mean, he's just the worst stepfather you could possibly have," Pattinson joked. "This was just a fun part to play: 'I just want to be your daddy. I want to be your daddy. That's all I want!'"
Star-studded cast for The Odyssey
In The Odyssey, Holland plays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus and Penelope, portrayed by Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway respectively. Pattinson takes on the role of Antinous, one of the film's central antagonists. Holland has also spoken warmly about reuniting with Pattinson, describing him as "unmatched," "an absolute legend," and someone who is "really dependable" in scenes. Anne Hathaway echoed similar sentiments, praising Pattinson's versatility. She called him "electric" and compared working with him to "working with lightning."
