Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for murdering his then-girlfriend's 93-year-old mother and attempting to rape her, with prosecutors alleging he searched for pornography involving elderly women before and after the crime.

Victim killed hours after 93rd birthday

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the State Attorney's Office, Dolores Padilla Marrero was killed on March 13, 2022, at an assisted living facility in Orlando, just hours after celebrating her 93rd birthday with family at another location.

Investigators said Javier Rosado Martinez, 58, who was dating one of Marrero's daughters, did not attend the birthday celebration. Instead, he went to the assisted living facility later that night and was let inside by another resident.

Days later, Marrero — a grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of 21 — was found dead, naked on her bed with a blanket covering her.

Prosecutors cite internet search history

During the trial, prosecutors alleged Martinez had a "continual fixation" on elderly women.

According to prosecutors, his internet history showed he searched for pornography involving older women and younger men two days before the attack. They also alleged he continued viewing similar material while at the victim's residence and again during the journey home after the killing.

State Attorney Monique H. Worrell said Marrero had welcomed someone she trusted into her life, only for that trust to be met with "unspeakable violence."

Life sentence without parole

Martinez was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for the murder. He also received an additional five-year prison sentence for attempted sexual battery, to be served consecutively.
