Opera singer Jubilant Sykes suffered more than 70 wounds in the fatal attack that killed him at his California home, according to newly released autopsy findings, as his son continues to face a murder charge.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner ruled the Grammy-nominated baritone's death a homicide caused by multiple stab wounds, according to documents obtained by Us Weekly.

Wife describes final moments

The report said Sykes' wife, Cecelia, told investigators she was in the shower when she heard her husband yell for her to call 911.

When she came out, she allegedly saw their adult son, Micah Sykes, standing over his father and attacking him with what was described as a sharp-edged weapon.

Autopsy details attack

According to the medical examiner's report, Sykes suffered at least 73 injuries, including 68 sharp-force wounds and five blunt-force injuries.

The report also stated that investigators recovered a curved knife and that a 10-pound dumbbell was allegedly used during the attack. Toxicology results found no illicit drugs or prescription medications in Sykes' system.

Son remains in custody

Sykes was found dead at his Santa Monica home on December 8, 2025, at the age of 71.

Police arrested Micah Sykes, 31, at the scene, and he was later charged with murder. Authorities have previously said he has a history of mental illness, including a diagnosis of schizophrenia.

Micah Sykes remains in custody without bail, and his next court appearance is scheduled for August.
