'The Odyssey' remains unbeatable as worldwide total reaches $639 million

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey continues to dominate the global box office, remaining firmly at No. 1 after earning an impressive $639.6 million worldwide in just two weeks.

The epic adaptation of Homer's classic poem added $87 million domestically during its second weekend, lifting its North American total to $286.3 million. 

With no major competition so far, the film has maintained its commanding lead and is already closing in on the coveted $1 billion milestone.

The movie's strong performance has been fueled in part by overwhelming demand for IMAX screenings. 

As the first feature filmed entirely with 70mm IMAX cameras, The Odyssey has seen premium-format tickets sell out weeks in advance, with resale prices soaring in some markets.

If the film reaches the billion-dollar mark, it will become Christopher Nolan's third movie to achieve the feat, following The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.

Elsewhere at the box office, Pixar's Toy Story 5 officially crossed the $1 billion mark after six weeks in theaters. 

The animated sequel earned another $34.7 million internationally over the weekend, pushing its worldwide total to $1.02 billion and making it the third film of 2026 to reach the milestone.

Disney's live-action Moana continued to struggle, adding $10.5 million domestically for a global total of $228 million after three weeks in theaters.

Looking ahead, The Odyssey is expected to face its biggest challenge when Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, arrives in theaters next weekend. 

However, Nolan's blockbuster will retain exclusive access to IMAX screens for its three-week run, potentially giving it another advantage at the box office.
