Savannah Guthrie makes tearful plea to mom Nancy's kidnappers
TV host urges her mother's kidnappers to reveal where she is
Savannah Guthrie made another emotional appeal for the safe return of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, urging those responsible for her alleged kidnapping to “do the right thing” and help bring the ordeal to an end.
In a video shared on Instagram on Monday, the Today co-anchor addressed the people she believes are holding her 84-year-old mother, who disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona, home on February 1.
“I’m coming to today with a very specific message. It has been months since our mom was taken from us. Our family is in agony,” Savannah said in the video.
“We are in a nightmare that will not end — nothing about our situation has changed.”
The 54-year-old journalist said her family has continued searching for Nancy and remains determined to bring her home.
“We have done our part and we will never stop looking for her. We will always ache for her, feel that hole in our hearts,” she said.
Savannah Guthrie pleads with kidnappers
Savannah then addressed the alleged kidnappers directly, asking them to reconsider their actions.
“The world can be a cruel and unforgiving place and I know that you have tried to do things the right way, so I’m asking you — begging you — to do the right thing now,” she said.
“Make the right choice. Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her.”
She added that she believes people can still choose to do the right thing regardless of their past.
“I truly believe it is never too late to do the right thing. Help us bring this situation to an end. For all of us — no matter where we’ve been and what we’ve done — I believe there is always a way home. Please make the right choice.”
Savannah captioned the Instagram post, “bring her home,” followed by a yellow heart emoji.
Nancy Guthrie remains missing
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her Tucson, Arizona, home on February 1.
Shortly after her disappearance, the FBI released home security images showing an armed, masked individual outside her residence on the night she went missing. The person appeared to be carrying a backpack and wearing gloves.
Authorities have not announced any arrests in connection with the case, although reports have stated that investigators received multiple ransom notes in the months following Nancy’s disappearance.
Last month, a former FBI agent said investigators were closing in on identifying the individual captured in the doorbell camera footage.
Despite the ongoing search for her mother, Savannah returned to her hosting duties on Today in April. She is currently on a brief break from the morning programme while filming the game show adaptation of Wordle.
