After years of leading The Late Show, Stephen Colbert is officially preparing to sign off on May 21. In a recent interview, he opened up about his successor, Byron Allen, whose show Comics Unleashed will take over the iconic 11:35 PM time slot. Colbert expressed genuine excitement for Allen, noting the historic significance of a Black host leading a major network in that late-night window.

As for his life after the final curtain call, Colbert isn’t slowing down. While he jokingly claimed to be the next James Bond, his real post-show plans are equally impressive. A longtime Lord of the Rings superfan, he is currently scripting a new film in the franchise and looking forward to returning to his roots as an actor and writer. Between family milestones and a newfound goal to get "ripped" in the gym, Colbert’s next chapter promises to be just as entertaining as his time behind the desk.
