Tom Holland explains why he has turned down hosting Saturday Night Live

The Spider-Man star opens up about the specific fear keeping him off the SNL stage

Tom Holland has revealed that there is virtually zero chance he will ever host Saturday Night Live, despite multiple invitations from producer Lorne Michaels. Speaking with SNL alum Amy Poehler on her Good Hang podcast, the Spider-Man actor opened up about how his dyslexia creates a major hurdle for the live sketch comedy show. Specifically, Holland explained that he is petrified of relying on cue cards. While he can read fine privately, reading out loud triggers a daunting mental block that causes him to freeze up.

Although he loves Saturday Night Live and the idea of making a fool of himself in a creative environment, the fear of unpredictable, last-minute cue card changes is simply too stressful. Holland also shared how he manages his dyslexia on other major film sets, noting that script read-throughs are his worst days at work. To cope, he highlights his lines and memorizes them ahead of time so he can rely on visual memory rather than reading aloud on the spot.
