Prince Harry and Elton John lose major privacy lawsuit against British newspaper publisher

High-profile celebrities face a massive legal setback in their high-stakes phone-hacking lawsuit

A high-stakes $50 million legal battle has ended in a major blow for Prince Harry, Elton John, Elizabeth Hurley, and several other high-profile figures. British Justice Matthew Nicklin ruled against the group in their 2022 unlawful information gathering lawsuit against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Daily Mail. The celebrities had accused the news organization of phone hacking, landline bugging, and home bugging across nearly one hundred separate allegations.

Following the ruling, a spokesperson for the publisher welcomed the decision as a victory for the free press, calling the claims a groundless fishing expedition. However, Prince Harry and co-claimant Baroness Doreen Lawrence strongly disagreed with the court, labeling the judgment a complete whitewash that denies them justice and accountability. While the royal and his team stand by their compelling evidence, reps for the other stars have yet to comment on the final ruling.
