Today Show staff on edge after intruder breaches security and lunges at Craig Melvin
A terrifying security breach at Rockefeller Plaza leaves the Today Show team shaken
A frightening security breach at NBC’s Rockefeller Plaza has left the Today Show staff on edge after a disorderly individual bypassed security and targeted host Craig Melvin. According to police, the intruder initially asked for Al Roker before rushing past guard points to approach Melvin near his dressing room. The suspect then allegedly shouted a racial slur and lunged at the co-anchor.
Fortunately, no one was injured, and the suspect was arrested after police were called to the scene. The unsettling incident forced co-hosts Al Roker and Dylan Dreyer to adjust live on-air during the 9:00 a.m. broadcast hour while Melvin briefly stepped away to alert security. This scare further heightens existing tension at the network, coming just months after the tragic abduction of co-anchor Savannah Guthrie's mother. NBC News has confirmed they are actively reviewing their security protocols to ensure staff safety.
