Google Maps Timeline history missing: Here’s how to restore it
Google has fixed the issue that recently caused several users to lose their Google Maps Timeline location history.
The issue began in early March and resulted in the disappearance of visit data for some users, with the "No visits for this day" message appearing instead.
Now, in a statement, Google has acknowledged the technical issue that led to the deletion of Timeline data for some users.
The tech giant explained that the problem has been resolved and the Google Maps Timeline functionality should now be properly recording new visits.
For Google Maps users who enabled encrypted Timeline backups, the company has provided instructions on how to restore their missing data.
For that, users must ensure they are running the latest version of Google Maps on Android or iOS.
From the "Your Timeline" section, users can tap the cloud icon, select a device or backup, and choose the "Import" option to restore their data.
However, users who did not enable backups will not be able to recover their lost data.
Notably, Google introduced the backup system when it transitioned from a cloud-based Timeline to a more privacy-conscious on-device approach.
The company has also promised to improve its systems to prevent similar issues in the future.
