OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode's latest update addresses THIS issue

OpenAI has released updates to its artificial intelligence (AI) voice feature in ChatGPT “Advanced Voice Mode,” aiming to create a more personable and less interruptive AI voice assistant.

Taking to the company’s social media channel, OpenAI post-training researcher Manuka Stratta announced this feature via a demo video, addressing a common issue with AI voice assistants, which often interrupt users when they pause to think or take a deep breath.

The updated Advanced Voice Mode now allows free ChatGPT users to pause without being interrupted, enabling more natural conversations.

"The model has a more engaging and natural tone that's more direct and concise. And now that it interrupts you less, you will have more time to gather your thoughts and not feel like you have to fill in all the gaps and silences,” Stratta noted.

However, paid subscribers, including those on the Plus, Teams, Education, Business, and Pro tiers, will experience even fewer interruptions and an improved personality for the AI voice assistant.

According to a company spokesperson, the new AI voice assistant for paying users is more direct, engaging, concise, and creative in its responses.

It should be noted that these enhancements come as OpenAI faces increasing competition in the AI voice assistant market.

Several startups such as Sesame, backed by Andreessen Horowitz, have gained attention for their natural-sounding AI voice assistants.

Moreover, larger players like Amazon are preparing to release their LLM-powered voice assistants, such as an updated version of Alexa.
