The 'Catwoman' actress teases possible wedding, keeping the proposal on hold

Halle Berry reflects on Van Hunt’s proposal

Halle Berry has revealed she still hasn’t accepted her partner Van Hunt’s proposal, even after nearly six years together.

The 59-year-old Oscar-winning actress told The Cut, “I haven’t said ‘yes.’ I don’t think we need to be married to have a meaningful relationship. I don’t know if we will ever get married.” She noted that the only exceptions to her rule would be health reasons or legal matters requiring marital status.

Berry, who has been married three times — to David Justice, Eric Benet, and Olivier Martinez — explained that each past breakup happened for a reason. “After my third divorce, people started to say, ‘What’s wrong with her? She’s crazy. She can’t keep a man,’” she said. “And I would always argue, ‘Who says I want to keep a man if he’s not the right man?’”

Despite her cautious approach to marriage, Berry is deeply happy with Hunt, describing their relationship as “the best I have ever had.” She shares two children — Nahla, 18, with former boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, and Maceo, 12, with Martinez.

Hunt previously admitted last summer that his proposal was “still on hold,” joking, “It’s just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her.” Berry echoed that sentiment, adding, “We don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don’t.”

Still, Berry hinted that a wedding could happen in the future. “I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married. And I feel like we should, we should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to. I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression,” she said, teasing that the timeline could be “soon.”
