Matt Damon reveals Ben Affleck heard 'The Odyssey' role before his wife

Matt Damon says Ben Affleck was the first person he spoke to after landing the lead role in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, revealing his longtime friend heard the news before wife Luciana Barroso because she was on a Zoom call.

Speaking during 100 Questions With Tom Simons alongside co-star Tom Holland, Damon recalled trying to call Barroso immediately after securing the role of Odysseus.

Affleck heard the news first

"So, I immediately called my wife who was on a Zoom, and so she couldn't pick up and I called Ben Affleck," Damon said.

The actor said Affleck was thrilled by the news.

"He freaked out," Damon said.

Damon added that he spoke with Affleck for about 30 minutes before ending the call, only to receive a text from Barroso asking why she had not heard the news first.

"Ben had run into her office to tell her," Damon explained.

Damon praises wife and longtime friend

Damon said he has long relied on Barroso's support throughout his career, revealing she reads his scripts and watches early cuts of his films.

The actor, who has been married to Barroso since 2005, previously said their relationship is built on "love and respect" and a strong foundation of trust.

Damon also recently reflected on his decades-long friendship with Affleck, calling his Good Will Hunting collaborator "one of the great loves of my life" after more than 45 years of friendship.
