Amy Madigan clinches her first ever Actor Award for Weapons

At 75 years of age, Amy Madigan has proven that it is never too late for a career-defining milestone. On Sunday, the veteran actress clinched her very first trophy at the 32nd Annual Actor Awards.

Madigan was honoured for her role as Aunt Gladys in the horror-thriller Weapons, taking home the prize for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.

In a spirited nod to her character’s onscreen antics, she delighted the crowd at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium by dashing to the stage to collect her gong.

"It's such an honor to be here," Madigan remarked, visibly moved by the recognition from the Screen Actors Guild.

"I've been doing this a long-ass time. And I have never been nominated by the SAG committee and by the guild. I am a proud member and I keep getting asked tonight, 'Well, what is it about this night?' I said, 'Because actors love other actors. They just love being with them.' "

The actress, who beat out stiff competition including Ariana Grande and Teyana Taylor, used her speech to praise her ensemble cast and director Zach Cregger.

Madigan admitted the surge of affection for her "ghoulish" character since the film's August release was "a nice surprise."

She noted that although her inbox isn't exactly overflowing with new scripts yet, the win has firmly placed her back in the industry's spotlight.

With an Oscar nomination already under her belt for the same role, Madigan’s "long-ass" journey in Hollywood is currently hitting a spectacular new peak.
