Hero Fiennes Tiffin opens up about 'proving himself' to uncle Joseph on Young Sherlock

Hero Fiennes Tiffin admits he initially felt nervous about acting alongside his uncle Joseph Fiennes on Amazon Prime Video’s Young Sherlock.

The 28-year-old star, who portrays a young Sherlock Holmes, opened up to People about the pressure of performing for his 55-year-old uncle, who plays Silas Holmes, the detective’s father, in the Guy Ritchie-directed series.

“At the start of any show, I’ve got a bit of imposter syndrome,” Hero said. “I’m like, ‘Why are they trusting me to do this? It’s a massive role.’

The word daunting is definitely one I’d use. And then Joe comes in, and you’re like, ‘Oh, I’m back to the bottom. I’ve got to prove to him that I can do it.’ I’m like, ‘S***, I really hope he thinks I’m good.’”

Thankfully, Hero said Joseph was “super supportive” on set. “I love doing all the scenes I did with him,” he added.

Looking ahead, Hero hopes to share the screen with Joseph’s older brother, Ralph Fiennes, in the future. “I’ve always loved the idea of working with both of them,” he said.

Hero previously played a young Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but did not get the chance to act opposite Ralph, who portrayed Lord Voldemort.

Despite growing up surrounded by famous relatives, Hero said he never considered Joseph or Ralph as celebrities. “My mom’s one of seven, so I didn’t really see Joe and Ralph too, too much. To me, they were always Uncle Joe and Uncle Ralph. They weren’t, like, Uncle Joe and Uncle Ralph, the famous actors,” he explained.

Hero, son of director Martha Fiennes and cinematographer George Tiffin, reflected on his path into acting: “I’m lucky that my family’s in the industry, and I very much fell into it. My mom was just like, ‘Do this audition, you’ll get a day off school,’ and I was sold by the day off school way more than the prospect of being an actor.”

He added, “Then you get older, and you realize how lucky you are to have opportunities, and you give it a go, and you start to enjoy it.”
