Miley Cyrus confirms Selena Gomez will appear in 'Hannah Montana' anniversary
Cyrus reflected on revisiting songs from Hannah Montana's repertoire
Miley Cyrus announces a very special guest will be part of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special.
During her chat with Variety, Cyrus spoke about collaborating with superfan and Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper on what fans were eager for in the upcoming special.
The performer, 33, acknowledged Cooper for organising a guest appearance by Selena Gomez as a central part of the celebration.
"I adore Selena, but I didn’t realise how much our friendship meant to the fans," Cyrus shared with the publication, confirming the fellow Disney star's involvement."
Cooper also persuaded Cyrus to kick off the special by driving from Malibu to the soundstage.
"I never connected the dots between Hannah’s home in Malibu and my residence in Malibu," Cyrus remarked, continuing, "And my home burning down and the process of rebuilding.”
Cyrus also reflected on revisiting songs from Hannah Montana's repertoire, including performing "Best of Both Worlds" for the first time since 2008, mentioning that after just three practice sessions, it felt familiar once again.
"It was just like riding a bike. The dancers were doing choreography, and I said, ‘That’s not how it originally was!’ " she chuckled. "And they said, 'Well, we’re trying to update it.' I replied, 'If it works, no need to change it!' "
Back in 2007, Gomez had a recurring character on the show as a pop star called Mikayla, who clashed with Hannah Montana.
Gomez discussed the rumours of her having a conflict with Cyrus during an interview with W, explaining to the outlet in 2016, “There was no feud. We both had a crush on the same boy when we were 16. It was like a Hilary Duff-Lindsay Lohan scenario: ‘Oh, my goodness, we both like the same guy!’ Today, we are completely at peace in our own lives.”
