Olivia Rodrigo shows support for Sabrina Carpenter’s success: ‘All love’

It’s been years since Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter were rumoured to be involved in a love triangle, but any supposed rivalry is a thing of the past for these pop sensations.

“I think she’s fantastic. I’m thrilled about all her achievements too. I adore the album she released,” Rodrigo, 23, remarked on the new cover of British Vogue. “There’s nothing but love, honestly. I’ve chatted with her several times.”

Rodrigo is believed to have penned her hit 2021 single “Drivers License” about her co-star Joshua Bassett — and after he was later seen with Carpenter, fans speculated she was “that blonde girl” mentioned in the lyrics as a source of Rodrigo’s insecurity.

Carpenter, 26, later released the track “Skin,” which fans thought was a reply to “Drivers License.”

The song featured the lines, “Maybe you didn’t mean it/Maybe blonde was the only rhyme,” along with “I wish you knew that even you can’t bother me unless I allow it.”

Since then, Rodrigo and Carpenter have been spotted conversing at events and ceremonies, and even embraced at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

Rodrigo looked back on her teenage years, when the drama with Carpenter was at its height, in an interview with British Vogue, noting how young teenagers seem to her now.

“Sometimes when I meet a 17 or 18-year-old these days, I think, ‘Wow, you’re so young.’ I can’t believe people were that harsh to me,” she expressed.

“I was experiencing a breakup, working a full-time job, creating [Sour], attending high school and taking, like, three AP classes. Reflecting on it, I always think, ‘Life won’t ever be as tough as it was at 17.’”

The Grammy Award recipient is preparing to unveil her eagerly awaited third album, which has not been given a title or release date yet.

It succeeds her second album Guts, which soared to the top of the charts when it launched in 2023.

“It presented a creative challenge to write from a happy perspective,” she explained. “When you’re truly connecting with someone or genuinely feeling good, you’re not overthinking, crafting melancholic poems!”
