ABC pulls Taylor Frankie Paul’s Bachelorette season days before premiere

ABC abruptly pulled Taylor Frankie Paul's season of The Bachelorette just three days before its scheduled premiere, following the release of a 2023 video showing Paul physically attacking her ex-boyfriend while her daughter was nearby.

A Disney Entertainment Television spokesperson confirmed on March 19: “In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of The Bachelorette at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family.”

The 31-year-old reality star shares two children with Mortensen—2-year-old Ever—and has two other children from a previous marriage: Indy, 8, and Ocean, 5½. Draper City Police in Utah confirmed there is an open domestic assault investigation stemming from a February 2026 incident involving Paul and Dakota Mortensen, 33.

Following the cancellation, several of the 22 men who competed on Paul’s season shared their reactions on social media. Malik Evans wrote: “I’m doing okay. Hope to share more soon. Thank you to everyone who has reached out.”

Brandon Perce posted a blank white photo with “…” over it, while Matthew Carroll reposted a local news video reporting the cancellation, adding: “On pause for now. Thank you for everyone's support and thoughtful messages.”

Johnnie LaRossa expressed gratitude for the experience and his fellow contestants: “I've gotta say the group of guys were truly unbelievable… Nothing but respect for them. Love you boys, and any woman would be lucky to have each and every one of them!”

Clayton Johnson also praised the cast: “So much integrity, respect and heart across the board. Even the tough moments never took away from that. Any woman would be lucky to be with any of these guys.”

A spokesperson for Paul told People that she is focusing on her family’s safety: “Taylor is very grateful for ABC’s support as she prioritizes her family’s safety and security… She is currently exploring all of her options, seeking support, and preparing to own and share her story.”

Mortensen, in his own statement, said: “As anyone who has seen the video will understand, this is a deeply upsetting situation. I categorically deny these claims and am focusing on our son and his safety, and hope that Taylor will do the same.”

ABC’s decision comes amid heightened scrutiny over domestic violence concerns and marks a rare last-minute cancellation in the history of the long-running dating series.
