Rio mayor prohibits Chappell Roan from event after incident with Jude Law's daughter

Chappell Roan has been declared unwelcome in Rio de Janeiro by the city’s mayor following accusations from Brazilian soccer player Jorginho Frello, who claims the singer and her security upset his stepdaughter, making her cry. causing his stepdaughter to break down in tears.

Rio Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere posted to X on Saturday saying that Roan, 28, is barred from performing at Todo Mundo no Rio during his tenure.

Todo Mundo no Rio is a series of complimentary global music events held on Copacabana Beach, featuring major stars like Madonna and Lady Gaga. Shakira is set to headline in May.

Cavaliere expressed, “As long as I remain in charge here, ChappellRoan is not welcome to perform at Todo Mundo no Rio! It's hard to believe Shakira would behave this way!”

“Additionally, [Frello], your daughter is already the esteemed guest of our organization in May!” Cavaliere mentioned, referring to Frello’s 11-year-old stepdaughter, Ada.

Frello made waves on Saturday by sharing that Ada — whose dad is actor Jude Law — and his wife, Catherine Harding (Ada’s mom), were mistreated by Roan’s security team at a São Paulo, Brazil hotel.

Roan is visiting the nation as a headliner for the Lollapalooza Brazil festival this weekend, sharing the stage with Sabrina Carpenter and Tyler, The Creator.

“My daughter woke up thrilled, she even crafted a sign because she was excited to see an artist she truly respects, or did respect, chappellroan,” Frello explained on Instagram.

The sportsman indicated that Ada noticed Roan during breakfast but didn't engage with her. Frello stated that a “large” guard then confronted Ada and her mom, communicating “in a highly aggressive way.”

“My daughter was terrified and cried a lot,” Frello shared. “Honestly, I don’t understand how just passing by a table and looking around … can be seen as harassment.”

Frello directed remarks at Roan, saying, “Without your fans, you’re nobody. To the fans, she is not worthy of your admiration.”

Roan later gave her account, noting the security individual mentioned was not affiliated with her personal team.

“I didn’t even notice a woman or child there, and none approached me,” she said in an Instagram video. “I was simply having breakfast in my hotel. I believe they were also guests there.”

“They did not come up to me. They weren't doing anything,” she confirmed.

The artist behind “Pink Pony Club” clarified that she harbors no ill will towards her fans.

“I do not despise children, that idea is absurd,” she concluded.
