Court hears Arielle Konig account of alleged cliffside attack by Gerhardt Konig

Arielle Konig explains how her husband attempted to push her off a Hawaiian cliff

Arielle Konig took the stand on Tuesday to provide a harrowing account of the moment her husband, anesthesiologist Gerhardt Konig, allegedly attempted to murder her.

The testimony marks exactly one year since the incident occurred during a hike along the Pali Puka trail on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.

Mrs Konig detailed a terrifying struggle near a cliff’s edge, where she claims her husband became violently aggressive.

"I walked up to him, he grabbed me really forcibly by my upper arms and he said, 'I'm so f****** sick of this s***. Get back over there.' And he starts pushing me back towards the cliff," she told the court.

The victim further testified that when the attempt to push her failed, Gerhardt Konig tried to stab her with a syringe before repeatedly striking her head with a rock.

According to her testimony, he chillingly stated, "You're done. We're done with you. We don't need you anymore." This traumatic event reportedly took place during a trip intended to celebrate her birthday.

While the defence argues that Mrs Konig initiated the physical confrontation after being confronted about an affair, prosecutors presented a different narrative.

They cited a phone call made by the defendant to his son as a confession, in which he allegedly admitted, "I tried to kill Arielle, but she got away."

Following the attack, Arielle Konig filed for divorce in May 2025 and sought a restraining order against the doctor, who previously worked in Pittsburgh and Hawaii. Gerhardt Konig now faces a charge of second-degree attempted murder and could be sentenced to life imprisonment if convicted.
