Expectant father killed in alleged intentional road rage collision in Arizona
Dezjon Hamilton died from catastrophic injuries after being struck by an SUV
A 21-year-old expectant father, Dezjon Hamilton, has died following what Arizona police describe as an intentional road rage attack carried out by a neighbour.
Gustavo Elias, 29, is currently facing charges of second-degree murder and reckless child abuse after he allegedly used his Chevrolet Tahoe to ram Hamilton’s motorcycle in Chandler.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the fatal encounter was the culmination of a long-standing dispute between the two men, who lived in the same apartment complex.
Elias reportedly told investigators that Hamilton had frequently "taunted" him by excessively revving his engine and speeding through their shared parking lot.
The situation turned deadly last week when Elias, who admitted to consuming twelve beers and ingesting cocaine, pursued Hamilton with two children inside his SUV.
Witnesses and the juveniles in the vehicle told officers that Elias intentionally steered into the motorcycle at high speed.
Hamilton suffered a "catastrophic cervical injury" and was placed on life support; his family confirmed he passed away over the weekend after being declared brain dead.
"You did this," a witness reportedly shouted at the scene, to which Elias allegedly replied, "I know this is my fault."
A breath test conducted after the crash revealed that Elias, a citizen of Mexico, had a blood alcohol content of 0.158—nearly twice the legal limit.
He is currently being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe has been established to support Hamilton's pregnant girlfriend and their unborn child.
The family expressed their heartbreak over the loss of a young man who was "so excited" for his future as a father.
