Fathom Entertainment CEO Ray Nutt to retire this autumn

Ray Nutt, the chief executive officer of the alternative theatrical distributor Fathom Entertainment, has announced his intention to retire this autumn.

Having led the company since 2017, Nutt’s nine-year tenure has been marked by significant growth and a strategic shift in the way speciality content is delivered to cinemas.

Under his guidance, the company, formerly known as Fathom Events, rebranded to Fathom Entertainment in January 2025 to reflect its expanding focus on longer theatrical runs and a broader slate of feature presentations.

The retirement comes at a time of record success for the firm, which is co-owned by the world’s three largest theatrical operators: AMC Entertainment, Regal Cineworld, and Cinemark.

Following the pandemic, Nutt pivoted the business model to include more "eventised" cinema, such as the smash hit "The Chosen" and successful re-releases of "Coraline".

Fathom is now positioned as a major force in the industry, frequently placing releases in the box office top ten.

"Fathom stands at the precipice of a terrific new chapter in its growth and evolution," Nutt stated, confirming he will remain active in assisting the board with the search for his replacement.

The CEOs of Fathom’s parent companies have expressed high praise for Nutt’s visionary leadership.

AMC’s Adam Aron credited him with "broadening the scope of content available" to moviegoers, while Eduardo Acuña of Regal Cineworld highlighted his role as a "real innovator."

Before joining Fathom, Nutt spent over three decades in the industry, including a senior role at Regal Entertainment Group.

He will oversee the final preparations for Fathom’s upcoming release of LAIKA’s "Wildwood" this October before concluding his four-decade career in the theatrical business.
