Hines breaks silence after Handler calls $6M house 'unlivable'

Handler claims an illegal addition and years of renovation delayed her move-in

Cheryl Hines is speaking out for the first time after Chelsea Handler claimed she and husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sold her a “toxic” home that delayed her move-in for years.

The Curb Your Enthusiasm star addressed the allegations during an appearance on the Tomi Lahren Is Fearless podcast, telling Hines’ side of the story in an exclusive preview from People.

Handler, who purchased the property five years ago, recently described the home as unlivable during a March 5 episode of her Dear Chelsea podcast and a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

“It took me four years to move in. There were a lot of problems with the house — I blame him,” Handler said, referring to RFK Jr. “I still have not lived in this house. That's how f---ed up this house was.”

Hines, 60, pushed back on the accusations, questioning why Handler chose to raise concerns after such a long delay.

“Because she bought this house five years ago and she's just now complaining about it, which is also, I don't know that she's getting a lot of sympathy from people. She's buying a $6 million house,” Hines said.

“And talking about how she feels duped and that we tried to sell her a house that was, her word, ‘toxic,’ which also doesn't make sense.”

The actress added that she personally reached out to Handler after the sale to offer support and make sure any issues could be addressed.

“I did write her a personal note when she moved in, just saying how much we love the house. And I hope that she has a beautiful life in this house. And if you need anything, call me. And I left my number,” Hines explained. “So I don't know if we were trying to unload a toxic house on her. I wouldn't have left my number.”

Hines also suggested Handler might be seeking attention, noting that poking fun at her husband could be “fun” for the comedian.

“So, what are you going to do? She's trying to get a laugh, I guess, and some likes,” Hines said.

Handler has claimed that the property included an allegedly illegal addition that she only discovered after her inspection.

“In the last week of inspection, they came and I finally — like, everything’s been redone, and they’re like, there’s a unit, like a little outdoor storage unit, that’s been there since I bought the property. And they’re like, ‘This is illegal.’”

The house, which Handler says took years of renovations before she could move in, has sparked public debate after her comments on both her podcast and late-night talk show appearances.
