Holly Marie Combs reveals Shannen Doherty’s unfulfilled ‘Charmed’ fan plans
The late actress remained deeply connected to the show and its community
Shannen Doherty had big plans to reconnect with fans of Charmed before her death, according to her longtime co-star Holly Marie Combs.
Speaking on the March 24 episode of the House of Halliwell podcast, Combs reflected on Doherty’s creative energy and the many ideas she hoped to bring to life prior to her passing in July 2024 at the age of 53 following a years-long battle with cancer.
“I think back on all the things we wanted to do,” Combs said, adding that Doherty had envisioned multiple projects, including a dedicated Charmed convention in the United States. “By now she would have had us doing three or four different things.”
Doherty, who portrayed Prue Halliwell, the eldest of the three witch sisters, was a central figure in the show’s early success.
She exited the series after its third season in 2001 but remained closely connected to her co-stars and the fan community in the years that followed.
Combs described Doherty as a constant source of inspiration, noting that she was always developing new ideas for shows, scripts, and fan experiences.
“She had so many ideas brewing all the time,” she said, adding that her late co-star’s creativity felt limitless.
Reflecting on their bond, Combs shared a personal memory of a difficult day when she surrounded herself with photos of Doherty for comfort.
“Her inspiration was boundless,” she said emotionally. “There was nothing that we couldn’t do.”
The actress also recalled how Doherty played a key role in shaping the original Charmed cast.
During a previous appearance, Combs revealed that Doherty advocated for her to be cast as Piper Halliwell, helping secure her place in the series despite initial hesitation from the network.
Doherty’s legacy continues to resonate with fans and former castmates alike, not only for her on-screen work but also for her passion, creativity, and enduring connection to the Charmed universe.
