Social media users report 'ugly crying' as Miley Cyrus releases Younger You on Friday
Miley Cyrus has officially released the music video for her new single, "Younger You", on Friday, marking the emotional climax of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary celebrations.
The thirty-three-year-old Grammy winner originally debuted the soaring track during the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special on Disney+ this Tuesday.
Accompanying the video’s launch, Cyrus shared a heartfelt message to her followers on Instagram, stating, "Younger me has loved celebrating 20 years of Hannah Montana with you. This song is yours as a thank you for the life we’ve grown through together. I love you always."
The song is uniquely written from the perspective of a younger self "checking in" on their current adult identity. It opens with the poignant lyrics, "Hey, you. It’s younger you. I’m just checking in to see if you still remember me," before asking, "Do you still pray before bed, or are you worrying instead?"
During the initial live performance, vintage clips of the singer from her Disney Channel era played on a screen behind her, creating what Cyrus described as a "full-circle moment".
She noted that the anniversary special is a gift to her audience, intended to honour the "rare and beautiful" bond shared over two decades.
Fans have responded with overwhelming emotion on social media, with many describing the track as a "healing" experience that has left them in tears.
The Flowers hitmaker, who has evolved significantly since her 2006 debut, concluded her announcement by affirming, "I adore you all and love you deeply."
