Miley Cyrus eyes silver screen return after years away from acting

Miley Cyrus has revealed she is "very interested" in returning to the big screen, marking a potential shift back to acting after more than six years away from major roles.

In a wide-ranging interview with Variety on Saturday, the 33-year-old superstar admitted she is actively searching for the right project.

"I just haven't found the right role for me," she explained, adding that she is looking for a character that either feels like an "extension" of her own personality or something "completely different" to challenge her.

Her last major on-screen appearances included the 2024 film Drive-Away Dolls and her acclaimed 2019 turn as Ashley O in Black Mirror. The timing of her announcement coincides with the global celebration of her roots.

On 24 March 2026, Disney+ and Hulu premiered the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, exactly two decades after the pilot first aired.

The special, which was celebrated with a star-studded premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, featured a retrospective interview hosted by Alex Cooper.

Cyrus, sporting signature blonde bangs reminiscent of her TV alter ego, reflected on the "chaos" of her youth with a new sense of peace. "Now it just gets to be a celebration," she told reporters. "I love that perspective."

Despite her passion for performance, Cyrus remains firm in her decision not to embark on a traditional world tour for her new album, Something Beautiful.

She reiterated that the gruelling schedule of the road is "not best" for her mental health or her commitment to sobriety.

To bridge the gap, she produced the Something Beautiful concert film, which she describes as her "way of touring" for fans in cinemas.

"None of this that I create would ever be possible without the way that I think about things," she noted, emphasising that her current priority is maintaining a stable, healthy routine with her family.
