Driver beaten with golf club in road rage, keys stolen: Police report

Two Minnesota residents face assault charges after a road rage incident involving a golf club.

Clarence Lyons, age 37, and Patience Jentzen, age 31, have been released on bond following arrests related to a road rage confrontation on March 23.

As reported in a probable cause affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime, law enforcement responded to an assault call near an intersection in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, where they found a male victim with head injuries.

The unidentified man stated that he intervened in what seemed like a road rage altercation between two drivers ahead of him.

Authorities say that when the man approached, Lyons "struck him with a golf club."

The affidavit states that surveillance footage revealed the initial road rage erupted when a brown sedan quickly overtook and blocked a red sedan, causing the latter to stop. A silver SUV driven by the victim followed both vehicles.

The victim reportedly parked his SUV and approached the brown sedan. Lyons exited from the passenger side swiftly, followed by Jentzen from the driver's side. Both moved toward the victim, leading to an argument, while the red sedan left the location.

As the dispute continued between Jentzen and the victim, Lyons returned to the brown sedan to get a golf club.

As the victim attempted to return to his SUV, Lyons allegedly "charged at him wielding a golf club" and began striking him.

The confrontation descended into a ground fight, during which Jentzen allegedly entered the victim's silver SUV, took his keys, and later attacked him with the golf club.

Following the alleged attack, Lyons and Jentzen reentered the brown sedan and departed.

On March 25, authorities located the brown sedan and arrested Lyons and Jentzen. According to the affidavit, both made "spontaneous remarks" regarding the victim, suggesting, "He deserved what he got."

Lyons faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon; Jentzen faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated robbery.

Both were detained in Hennepin County Jail and have since posted bond. Jentzen is set for a court appearance on April 22, while Lyons will appear on April 23.
