Pennsylvania mom murdered by business partner over restaurant investment
Blair Watts transferred $17,000 from Brown’s accounts hours after her death
A Pennsylvania woman’s lifelong dream of opening a restaurant ended in tragedy when her business partner allegedly betrayed her, leading to her murder and burial in a shallow grave.
Jennifer Brown, 43, an attentive mother to two young sons, vanished on January 4, 2023, in Limerick Township, Pennsylvania.
Her absence was first noticed when her 8-year-old son, Noah, returned home from school without his mother there to greet him.
Concerned friends and family launched a search, but two weeks later, Brown’s body was discovered buried behind a warehouse in nearby Royersford.
An autopsy revealed that Brown had suffered broken ribs and likely died from asphyxiation.
Tiffany Barron, Brown’s best friend, recalled her shock: “Nobody deserves to be murdered and discarded like a piece of trash.”
Authorities initially questioned men close to Brown, including her business partner, Blair Watts, 32, and Brian Bathey, 49, a married neighbor with whom Brown had been involved romantically.
Bathey admitted to police that he had argued with Brown days before her disappearance over his jealousy of her relationship with Watts.
Investigators ultimately focused on Watts, co-owner of the restaurant Brown had invested in, Birdie’s Kitchen.
The eatery, planned for Phoenixville, had never actually secured a lease, though Brown believed the grand opening was imminent.
Evidence showed that Watts had transferred $17,000 from Brown’s accounts to his own hours after her presumed time of death.
Watts was arrested on February 9, 2023, on suspicion of first-degree murder. He was later convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
Born in Philadelphia and raised on the Jersey Shore, Brown had long dreamed of opening her own restaurant.
In 2022, she partnered with Watts, a former food truck operator, and invested $14,000 toward the venture.
Unbeknownst to Brown, Watts allegedly misrepresented the business opportunity, ultimately leading to the deadly betrayal.
Jennifer’s surviving son, Noah, is now being raised by relatives, while friends and family continue to mourn the loss. Barron said, “I can’t understand how someone could do something so cruel to someone so good.”
