Did you know? Light yellow urine confirms optimal kidney filtration
Dr Saurabh Sethi explains how sweating prevents physical overheating during exercise
Our bodies can behave in ways that seem strange or even embarrassing, but they are constantly communicating with us. We are often quick to notice symptoms when something goes wrong, yet there are subtle signs that indicate everything is functioning exactly as it should.
Dr Saurabh Sethi, a California-based gastroenterologist trained at AIIMS, Harvard, and Stanford, shared insights into these misunderstood behaviours.
Recognising these signals offers valuable insight into health patterns and helps individuals understand how their internal systems work.
"Gas is produced when gut bacteria break down food. It's completely normal and shows your digestive system is working perfectly," Dr Saurabh Sethi explained.
He further noted that light yellow urine means "you're well hydrated and your kidneys are filtering waste properly."
Sweating during exercise is another healthy sign, acting as a natural cooling system to prevent overheating. Regarding digestion, Dr Saurabh Sethi shared that "anywhere between 3 times a week to 3 times a day is completely normal and signals a healthy gut."
Even those loud gurgling sounds are positive, as they mean "your intestines are actively moving food and gas." Furthermore, healthy gums that do not bleed while brushing and skin that snaps back quickly when pinched are key indicators of oral hygiene and hydration.
"Earwax protects your ear canal by trapping dust, bacteria, and debris. It's not dirty – it's protective!" Dr Saurabh Sethi highlighted. Finally, a runny nose in the cold is a "healthy protective response" to humidify air entering the lungs.
Ten signs of a healthy body
1. Passing gas daily:
Indicates gut bacteria are actively breaking down food.
2. Light yellow urine:
A sign that you are well hydrated and kidneys are filtering waste.
3. Sweating during exercise:
Shows the temperature regulation system is functioning effectively.
4. Regular bowel movements:
Frequency between three times a day and three times a week is normal.
5. Stomach rumbling:
Confirms the gastrointestinal tract is moving food and gas along.
6. Gums don’t bleed while brushing:
Signals a lack of inflammation and good dental hygiene.
7. Burping after carbonated drinks:
The natural way to expel excess gas and relieve pressure.
8. Skin bounces back when pinched:
Signifies good hydration and healthy skin elasticity.
9. Ears produce earwax:
Acts as a protective layer trapping dust and bacteria.
10. Runny nose in cold weather:
Triggers mucus production to warm air before it reaches the lungs.
