'Brady Bunch' star reveals turbulent 20s after childhood fame
Lookinland and Christopher Knight reflected on their time as Bobby and Peter Brady in famous 1970s series
Mike Lookinland from "Brady Bunch" confessed that he was completely "out of control" after achieving massive fame with "The Brady Bunch."
Discussing their years as young actors in Hollywood, Lookinland and Christopher Knight reflected on their time as Bobby and Peter Brady in the famous 1970s series.
During "The Real Brady Bros." episode, Jaybeau Jones inquired, “What kept you guys from having mugshots?” He remarked, “No one has ever said anything negative about the kids from ‘The Brady Bunch.’”
Knight replied, “Possibly because we didn’t want to let Florence and Bob down. That's where it began. There are just some people you don’t wish to disappoint. For me, that feeling with them was stronger than with my own parents.”
Florence Henderson and Robert Reed played Carol and Mike, acting as on-screen parents to Lookinland and Knight.
Mike Lookinland portrayed Bobby Brady in the iconic television show from 1969 to 1974.
Lookinland shared that he faced more challenges when he entered his 20s.
“I essentially experienced my childhood in my 20s since I couldn't as a kid,” he said. "During my 20s, I had a car, money, and independence... I was completely reckless."
He continued: “I'm grateful that when I was 25, there wasn’t a high-resolution camera in everyone’s pocket like there is now, because it would have destroyed my life.”
Knight noted he had heard "stories" about Lookinland's past antics. Lookinland replied, “A lot of that went unnoticed.”
Knight humorously added, "What goes on in Salt Lake City stays in Salt Lake City."
In a previous episode of “The Real Brady Bros.,” Susan Olsen, Lookinland and Knight’s co-star, revealed she “nearly died” while filming the first episode as Cindy Brady.
While reviewing the pilot episode with her fellow cast members, Olsen disclosed that was the last close-up of Cindy because “I got hurt.” Her co-stars reacted with surprise as she elaborated, "Yes, I almost died."
“On the Culver lot, they were filming something — presumably, in the girl's bedroom — and I was getting body makeup applied to my legs,” Olsen detailed. “I was standing on a makeup chair when something from the catwalk, where lights and equipment are stored, fell.”
Olsen clarified, “If you watch the [wedding] scene and see the three girls on one side, zooming in really close reveals my face to be quite swollen,” she said. “My appearance is altered. This is noticeable in some of the early promotional photos. You can detect a bit of swelling on my face.”
“The Brady Bunch” ran from 1969 to 1974, featuring a blended family with three boys and three girls from former marriages.
