Game of Thrones actor Michael Patrick dies aged 35

Wife Naomi Sheehan confirms Michael Patrick died peacefully following his MND diagnosis

Michael Patrick, the esteemed Irish writer and actor known for his appearance in Game of Thrones, has passed away at the age of 35.

His wife, Naomi Sheehan, announced the sombre news via an Instagram post on April 8, 2026. The actor had been bravely battling Motor Neuron Disease, an incurable condition he was diagnosed with in February 2023.

This progressive neurological disorder affects the cells controlling skeletal muscle activity, including walking and breathing.

Providing a touching account of his final moments, Sheehan wrote: “Last night, Mick sadly passed away in the Northern Ireland Hospice.”

She further explained: “He was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease on 1st February 2023. He was admitted 10 days ago and was cared for by the incredible team there. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. Words can’t describe how broken-hearted we are.”

Sheehan praised his vibrant spirit, noting: “It’s been said more than once that Mick was an inspiration to everyone privileged enough to come into contact with him, not just in the past few years during his illness but in every day of his life. He lived a life as full as any human can live. Joy, abundance of spirit, infectious laughter. A titan of a ginger-haired man.”

She concluded with a quote Patrick loved: “‘The most important things to do in the world are to get something to eat, something to drink and somebody to love you.’ So, don’t overthink it. Eat. Drink. Love. Naomi — Mick’s wife.”

Patrick leaves behind a significant legacy within the Belfast arts community and several acclaimed scripts.
