‘The Pitt’ star reveals show helped clear his $80K debt

Patrick Ball was moved to tears as he described how his role in "The Pitt" helped him eliminate his college debt.

Ball — who portrays Dr. Frank Langdon on the acclaimed HBO series — mentioned that he managed to pay off his $80,000 in student loans three months into the job.

“That was a deeply significant moment because I once believed I'd never be able to clear it,” he told Cultured magazine in an interview published Tuesday. “It’s a heavy load to bear, and many people experience it.”

Ball, who plays Dr. Frank Langdon on the show, said he settled the debt within three months of being cast.

The actor — a former student of both the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the Yale School of Drama — revealed that financial struggles significantly impacted his previous relationships.

“I assumed this would always be part of my life, and that's a tough reality to live with,” he revealed.

“Clearing my student loans and starting fresh, I thought, ‘If the show succeeds, great. If not, they can't take away the fact that I'm debt-free. That part of my life is settled.’”

Ball reflected on being close to quitting acting just six months before joining "The Pitt" due to financial hardships.

“I was looking for an escape route,” he confessed.

Ball, 36, recalled juggling multiple jobs, including four in New York.

“I was a barista, worked in a restaurant, was employed as a wardrobe assistant for ‘And Just Like That,’ and conducted corporate training seminars,” he shared.

“I led seminars where they'd invite me to Blackrock, Blackstone, and Goldman Sachs, to train young managers in managing difficult conversations, like how to terminate an employee,” he added. “They hired me as an actor to give these managers a chance to practice firing someone.”

“The Pitt” — recipient of a SAG Actor Award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series this year — has been a massive success for HBO.

The medical drama is fronted by "ER" veteran Noah Wyle. The actor made a rare appearance with his wife, Sara, and their children — Auden, 20, and Owen, 23 — at the premiere of “The Pitt” season 2 in January.
