Rihanna shooting suspect makes court debut after AR15 attack on $14m mansion
Ivanna Ortiz admitted guilt to 14 charges during her appearance at Los Angeles Superior Court
The woman accused of opening fire with an assault rifle at Rihanna’s $14 million Beverly Hills residence was seen grinning as she made her first appearance in court.
Ivanna Ortiz, 35, admitted guilt to 14 charges, which included attempted murder, during her appearance at Los Angeles Superior Court last month.
Ortiz allegedly shot several bullets at the exquisite LA property while Rihanna, 38, was inside with her partner A$AP Rocky, their three young kids, and the singer’s mom.
Entering in restraints and wearing yellow and blue inmate attire, Ortiz gave a sly grin as an officer escorted her from the holding cells into the LA courthouse yesterday.
The suspect is facing 12 more charges in addition to the attempted murder allegation.
These additional charges encompass multiple counts of assault with a semi-automatic weapon and firing into an occupied property or vehicle, after the gunshots struck the compound’s gate while the family was within.
If found guilty, she could be sentenced to life imprisonment.
The prosecution asserts that Ortiz fired multiple rounds from an AR15 assault rifle at the Grammy-winning artist's estate before fleeing in a white Tesla Model 3.
According to audio reviewed by The U.S. Sun, the initial emergency call was made shortly after 1:15pm local time.
“The gunfire originated from across the street,” the dispatcher stated, noting that no eyewitnesses had a clear view of the suspect at the time.
Witnesses reportedly informed officers that the shooter fired from a moving vehicle before speeding off.
“Ten rounds were discharged from the car at the gate,” the dispatcher conveyed over the radio.
Law enforcement scrambled to identify the fleeing vehicle along Coldwater Canyon, with one officer requesting: “Can you determine the Tesla's model?”
Officers later tracked the car to a shopping center parking lot in Sherman Oaks, where Ortiz was apprehended roughly 30 minutes post the initial emergency call.
She was subsequently charged with attempted murder and remains in custody with a bail amount set at $10,225,000.
Investigators state that around five to seven shots struck the property’s gate but did not impact the main building.
“Upon taking the suspect into custody, they searched the vehicle and found an assault rifle and seven casings,” LAPD representative Armen Arias shared with the LA Times.
Authorities also discovered bullet impacts in the gate and an RV parked on the driveway.
Officials later disclosed that approximately 10 individuals were present at the location during the incident, but no injuries were reported.
Ortiz reportedly had an obsession with Rihanna long before the shooting occurred.
She allegedly posted about the “Umbrella” star online and is said to have shared videos in which she referenced the singer’s demise.
