American suspect arrested in Bahamas following Lynette Hooker vanishing

The United States Coast Guard has confirmed it is conducting a criminal investigation into the disappearance of 55-year-old American Lynette Hooker in the Bahamas.

On Wednesday, the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) announced that a 59-year-old American male was taken into custody in Marsh Harbour for questioning.

The development follows a search-and-rescue operation that began after Lynette vanished during a boat journey on 4 April.

According to initial reports, Lynette and her husband, Brian Hooker, departed Hope Town for Elbow Cay on a small dinghy at 7:30pm.

Brian later informed authorities that his wife fell overboard with the boat keys, forcing him to paddle back to shore.

He claimed that "strong currents" carried Lynette away until he lost sight of her. While search efforts involving drones, divers, and aerial support from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force remain active, the nature of the inquiry shifted after local police detained the unidentified suspect.

Karli Aylesworth, Lynette’s daughter, has called for a comprehensive review of the incident, citing "prior issues" that she believes are relevant to the case.

In a statement, Aylesworth said: "My sole concern is to find out what happened to my mother and make sure a full and complete investigation is performed."

She added: "However, there needs to be an intensive review of the facts and circumstances... before that can be determined."

Federal and Bahamian authorities continue to collaborate on the case as they examine the evidence surrounding the evening of the disappearance.
